Highlights
The EUROPA 2 will be waiting to welcome you in Port Louis, the bustling harbour city of Mauritius. The island is famous for the legendary beaches and a colourful underwater world, which you can enjoy on the first day. The next morning, Reunion awaits with its fantastic tropical landscapes and breathtaking mountains. Pay a visit to the volcano Piton de la Fournaise* and see the crater from a height of 2,300 m (7,546 ft). A helicopter flight* offers even more striking views of the densely forested areas of Salazie and the Bras de Caverne valley with its impressive waterfalls. After a relaxing day at sea, you’ll reach Madagascar, the world’s fourth-largest island. The unspoilt Port d’Ehoala (Taolanaro) – the “place of dreams” – is known for its beaches, lagoons and lush vegetation. A walk through Nahampoana Reserve* will introduce you not only to a variety of exotic plants but also lemurs, with a little luck.
After another two days at sea, you’ll reach Richards Bay and the gateway to the breathtaking Zululand region, where thrilling safaris* await. One of the oldest animal reserves in South Africa, the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park* is home to leopards, lions, zebras and giraffes. The Zulu Nyala private game reserve* offers encounters with four of the big five. Alternatively, enjoy a boat ride along St Lucia’s river* and watch the crocodiles and hippos from a safe distance. Durban is another impressive place to visit. Nowhere else in South Africa has such a cosmopolitan mix of Indian, European and African cultures. Discover the Indian market, the Vasco da Gama clock or the Botanic Gardens on a tour* of the country’s third-largest city. Nature lovers can head for an active canopy adventure* in the green treetops of the exotic forests. Join a game drive from the authentic city of East London to various wildlife reserves*. With a little luck, you’ll spot giraffes, antelopes or even elephants. Fantastic beaches stretching 16 km (9.9 mi.) along the coast invite you to stroll along the sands in Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth). The prospect of over 25 game species and 200 types of bird in Kariega Game Reserve* is just as exciting as the approximately 400 colossal creatures in Addo Elephant National Park*.
The “Bay of Mussels” lies on a coastal plateau set against the imposing backdrop of the Outeniqua Mountains. An excursion heads from Mossel Bay along the famous Garden Route*. A scenic tour to Knysna* – followed by a boat tour* in the lagoon – also takes you along the most beautiful part of the route. Next, you’ll reach Cape Town, the highlight of your cruise. The symbiosis of big-city flair, the wonderful location on the ocean, the interesting history and the diverse hinterland all the way to the Cape of Good Hope are what makes South Africa’s capital so incomparable. Enjoy the view from Table Mountain* or the special wines of the Constantia wine estate*. You’ll spend one last night on board the EUROPA 2 to round off your cruise.
