The name of the atoll discovered by the Dutch in 1616 means “endless sky”. Copra is farmed here, as are the precious black South Sea pearls. Find out about how the pearls are processed and their history with a visit to a pearl farm*. With a little luck, you’ll encounter exotic butterfly fish, rays and cornetfish while snorkelling* in the ocean.

Papeete/Tahiti/Society Islands/French Polynesia, arrival 20.00 hrs

Tahiti’s little sister with its volcanic mountains is one of the most beautiful atolls in the South Pacific. Head for an uninhabited island by motor boat with a lagoon trip*. The outlying coral reef is a perfect spot for snorkelling. Soak up the South Seas feeling with a picnic on a motu* – one of the typical islets that you will reach by boat. You can gaze at the impressive scenery along the way and with a little luck you’ll be able to spot some stingrays in the water.
