The historic capital of Normandy is located about 120 kilometers from the Seine estuary inland. You will therefore experience a beautiful river passage before you moor in the harbor of the historic city. Victor Hugo called Rouen the city of 100 church towers. The old town consists of a charming maze of narrow cobblestone streets, flanked by smart half-timbered houses and magnificent Gothic churches, including the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral and the St. Maclou Church. Rouen’s main square, Place du Vieux-Marché, is as famous as the place where Jean d’Arc was burnt at the stake in 1431. Further upriver in the countryside is the town of Giverny, known as the home of Claude Monet, who immortalized the beauty of Rouen on many of his paintings. | ||||
