Highlights
Your cruise on the EUROPA 2 starts in South Africa’s hip metropolis, Cape Town, where you’ll embark on an adventure full of fascinating contrasts and spectacular encounters with nature. After relaxing on board on the first day at sea, you’ll reach the colourful town of Luderitz with its historic and lovingly preserved art nouveau buildings. Enjoy a walk around at your own pace and immerse yourself in the nostalgic charm of this small town. Namibia’s third-largest city Walvis Bay is surrounded by areas of sand, which are interrupted in the south west by a lagoon inhabited by numerous flamingos. A scenic flight over the desert landscape of Sossusvlei* will take you over orange sand dunes, which – with heights of over 300 m (984 ft) – are some of the tallest in the world. A tour of the Namib desert by all-terrain vehicle* promises to be just as impressive, its rock formations creating a fascinating interplay of colours.
After these exciting experiences, enjoy two days of relaxation on board, before Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) invites you to stroll along its idyllic beaches, which stretch more than 16 km (9.9 mi.) along the coast. There are two alternative ways to explore nature from here: the prospect of over 25 game species and 200 types of bird in Kariega Game Reserve* is just as exciting as the approximately 400 colossal creatures in Addo Elephant National Park*. Discover Durban, South Africa’s third-largest city. You’ll find a very special blend of European, African and Indian culture in this city. Nature lovers can opt for an active canopy adventure* in the treetops of the jungle.
The “Bay of Mussels” lies on a plateau set against the imposing backdrop of the Outeniqua Mountains: Mossel Bay is the ideal starting point for a scenic tour* along the Garden Route. A scenic tour to Knysna* – followed by a boat tour* in the lagoon – also takes you along the most beautiful part of the route. Enjoy the view from your veranda as the EUROPA 2 cruises into the port of cosmopolitan Cape Town. Experience fabulous views from Table Mountain* or on a trip to the Cape of Good Hope*. After one final night on board, your cruise on MS EUROPA 2 comes to an end in this South African boom town.
